You can fly into the West Kootenay Regional Airport, conveniently located 10 minutes by car from downtown Castlegar, from such urban centres as Calgary or Vancouver. It truly is beautiful driving into Castlegar from any direction. You’ll enjoy mountain views while you drive alongside rushing rivers and past quaint homesteads. And because BC Highway 3A passes right near downtown, it doesn’t get any easier to access us. A note of caution that there can be deer, bears, bighorn sheep and other mountain animals near the roads and while they’re beautiful to look at, be aware they can occasionally walk onto the road in front of you. Drive with care. in the winter, driving conditions can change quickly at higher elevations. Winter tires are required if you are driving to Castlegar between the months of December and March and carrying chains is advisable. Delays for avalanche control and snow removal may be possible. If you’re travelling within the region by bus, you can use the BC Transit – West Kootenays service. There are multiple transit stops in and around Castlegar. The phone number is 855-993-3100.
If you’re travelling to or from the region, there is a Greyhound Station conveniently located in Castelgar near the highway at 601 23rd Street. The phone number is 250-687-3100.
By Taxi or Shuttle
The local taxi service is Castlegar Taxi, which can be reached by phoning 250-387-0133. There are also two shuttle services that provide airport pick-ups and rides to Red Mountain, Spokane Airport and other destinations. They include:

Castlegar is located just North of the American border and is an easy drive from northern Montana and Idaho and eastern Washington. In fact, there are three border crossings nearby and the closest is less than an hour away by car. drive closest border crossing is less than an hour’s drive from the closest border crossing. To cross the international border between the United States and Canada, you must have proper identification (usually a passport). You must also know the hours of operation for each border crossing as some are not open 24 hours. And finally, be sure to familirize yourself with the regulations about what you can and can’t bring into each country. Check the information provided by both governments. Castlegar enjoys beautiful warm, sunny weather in the summer months and mild winters with lots of snow to play in. Average temperatures in the summer hover around 28°C (82°F) and in the winter they hover between -1°C (31°F) and -6°C (21°F). Average annual precipitation is 75 cm (30 in) but in the winter months the nearby ski resorts and mountains enjoy averages of 12 metres (40 feet) of snow!
