At the beginning of July every year Castlegar hosts three unique and specialized Youth Camps

Fiddlers, Golf and Kayak Academy Camp all run from July 8-12. These are back by popular demand and offer a taste of what Castlegar BC does best.

Fiddlers Camp:
Kootenay Fiddlers are presenting the 18th Annual Kootenay Fiddle, Guitar and Piano Workshop at Selkirk College Castlegar Campus, July 8 to 12, 2019.

This is a week long summer camp for players of all skill levels to learn new tunes and techniques, plus get to learn and play from some of the finest fiddle instructors in Canada. There are daily classes for the 3 instruments with jam sessions to finish off each day, plus workshops throughout the week that may include harmony, orchestra, improving technique and step dancing.

Evenings are fun filled starting with a community fiddle jam session Monday, July 8th, 6:30-8:30 pm, at Millennium Park, and an instructors concert Tuesday, July 9th, 7-8:30 pm, at Gyro Park, Trail.  The public is invited to join instructors and students for a recital and family dance Thursday, July 11th, 7-9 pm, at the Castlegar Community Complex.  Music is provided by the instructors, students and the Kootenay Fiddlers. This is a very entertaining evening with lots of fun for the whole family to hear some great fiddling and participate in a good old-time dance.

Selkirk Saints Golf Camp:
Instructors will give training on all aspects… short game, long game, specialty shots, mental game, rules and etiquette. Instruction will be at Castlegar Golf Club, other local area golf courses and Selkirk College Gymnasium – Castlegar.
July 8-12, 2019, 24+ hours of on/off course training, Two 9-hole rounds and one 18-hole round, Virtual computerized swing analysis, Video analysis, Mental training, history of the game, strategy, course management, Specialized swing instruction including tough lies, trouble shots.

Kayak Academy Camp
This course has challenged youth from the Kootenays and beyond for over a decade. The morning paddlers take a slow progressed outlook on whitewater kayaking. Starting in the lake and graduating to the river in plastic or inflatable kayaks.
The afternoon is packed with learning to paddle board, Jr. Raft guide training and getting extra practice on the river.
Youth Week specializes in group leadership, rescue techniques and kayak fitness. Students learn basic paddle strokes and concepts, river safety, how to roll, and more.
Suitable for ages 10-16.
Duration: 5 Days. Start times – Full days: 9am – 4pm, 1/2 days – Mornings only: 9am – 12pm. Availability: 1: July 8 – 12, 2: July 29 – Aug 2, 3: Aug 12 – 16. Class of river: II – III+
