Understory is an exhibition of mixed-media paintings by Heather Good, on view from August 13 through October 31, 2026.
Inspired by the forest and the quiet rhythms of the natural world, Understory explores shifting light, layered textures, and cycles of growth, decay, and renewal. Good’s paintings begin with close observation but evolve through an intuitive process of layering materials, reworking paint, and responding to the surface over time.
Rather than representing a specific place, these richly layered works become reflections on memory, perception, and lived experience. Organic forms, colour, and expressive mark-making create visual landscapes that invite viewers to consider their own relationship with the natural world and the ways it shapes our sense of place and belonging.
Understory offers a thoughtful meditation on the connections between the landscapes we move through and the inner landscapes we carry with us, encouraging us to look more closely at the living systems that sustain us and the enduring presence of nature in our lives.
